Three years ago in my fervent search for information to improve myself as a photographer and to separate myself from Aunt Margie. You know the one, she just got her new pro-summer digital camera and now she is an instant photographer showing up at family events shooting away and probably never event taking the images off the flash card. HEY! It’s the thingy the guy at the camera store put in the camera to store the images. Gezzz! I digress.
Anyway I found a magnificent man Don Giannatti. He is an Arizonian based photographer that has a true passion to teach basic lighting techniques’ to amateur through professional level photographers. Hence the name of his site www.lighting-esstentials.com . Don has a wealth of knowledge that he shares freely, well not freely you have to pay for the workshop, with those that share the passion of photography. I was honored to be able to host two of his workshops here in Houston. The key to separating yourself from the rest of the pack and dear ole’ Aunt Margie is creative lighting.
This is an image of Nicole that I captured in one of the workshop. It was a one light setup. Basically Don held a studio strobe about 30 degrees above camera axis. The goal was to mix the strobe’s power to match the ambient light outside. Pretty cool I think.
I had a blast and learned a ton that’s why I hosted two workshops. Its been a while since the last workshop in fact I think it was almost a year ago, maybe its time to host another workshop? Stay tuned and subscribe to my blog so you will get email updates. I will certainly bolg information here.
Have a great weekend.
