Iconica Blog bio picture

Welcome to Iconica Studios

I photograph people in obscure locations to create something
more that a photograph but something truly unique as the person. When I can
stop someone with my work and capture their attention, I have achieved my
Goal; that’s Iconica!

I may use a location more than once but throw in new
dimension to make it completely defferent than the last.

If I have to use a label I guess that I would put on
Lifestyle photographer because I want to capture not only an image of the
person but also their personality which is essence of who we are….

Well I hope you like the blog. Please feel free to leave
some love if you like what you see. I hope to get better connected soon with the
internet so I can be more frequent with my post.

Cheers!

The Quest for Blue

Some years ago we discovered a quaint little eatery off the beaten path of Hwy 290 North. In a little out of the way town of Round Top, population 77, there is an old gas station conversion that now serves as a fine bistro, Royers Round Top Café. Bud, The Pie Man took over the little cafe’ in 1987 along with his wife and four Children. The forty seat café serves 5 star cuisine and pies that are to die for. If you ever get the chance the drive up from Houston is worth it.

Dad was home from Kazakhstan and we have always wanted to take him to eat at Royer’s and with the Blue Bonnets season, we planned the trip and hopefully get some pictures in the blue bonnets. After the lunch stop at Royer’s we were on our way. The trip up did not look promising; the flowers were few and far between. We decided to head for Old Baylor Park. Traditionally, a sure thing for blue bonnets but we arrived to an empty field. With the sun falling fast we decided to make run back to Chapel Hill were we had spotted field that held a small patch. The sun was setting fast so rushing to decide the setup, I opted for a single light with a small umbrella and a human boom stand (my dad). I fired a few shots but not at all what I was hoping for but unique all the same.  I love it when that happens.

We had great fun just being together and laughing, loving and living. We don’t do enough of that these days. Make sure you enjoy the blessings around you. Hug your kids toady and tell them you love them, for yesterday is history, tomorrows a mystery, that’s why today is a present.

Peace,

J

Killer Baby Blues – Sneak Peek

I realize that this blogging thing is quite time consuming, especially for someone as busy as myself. Unfortunately, I am not busy doing the things that matter most. Like for one, time doing things with my family and that includes extended family.

But every now and again you get that chance and then you realize how much people in your life really mean to you when you’re with them for only a few hours and then there gone again. There are people in your life that touch you in a way that they really will never know. In a way that shape there very person you are and in return you get to shape another. That’s the way it is in ministry. Kinda like those people that sell soap… You know that pyramid thing…

Finally, I got the chance to do a photo shoot with the grand daughter of just some people that shaped my life and showed me that living and loving Jesus is a do’able thing… If I could describe them it would be Preach Jesus and if necessary use words….

So here are some shots from Ms. Paiten’s photo shoot. She did fabulous job and killed me with those baby blues. After I left the shoot I felt a bit strange because it was only yesterday that I was playing the bull in the championship rodeo while her dad and uncle rode me to the ground in the living room… I have the pictures from that very scene and aint pretty. That was about 14 years ago i think.

Enjoy!

I love you guys

I saw the light…..

Jayce was playing some of the old hymns and the light was conveniently shinning through the blinds. I love how the shadow fell on the music.  This is a rare event even that he let me snap this shot. I love his talent and it brings much joy into the house….. Except when you want to watch some TV.

Pam Alford - This is a very cool shot!March 24, 2011 - 2:51 pm

My Boys

Before Miss “P” there were the boys… I love my boys. They are two completely different people and that’s for sure. I love how God created them so uniquely different but kinda the same. They are both so passionate about everything they do and although they can be very rowdy they have a very compassionate side to them.

I started shooting them very young so it is difficult to get serious shots of them that are of any good quality. They usually  cringe when they see me with me with a camera, but with Miss “P “ on the scene they are a little more open to letting me photograph them.

Here are few shots from Jayce’s Birthday dinner at P.F. Changs.

I grab these shots of Silas downtown Kansas City at the Onething conference.

I am booking now for senior portraits. Don’t delay and book today. Send me an email I can get you on the books.

Cheers!

Pam - I love the look of the pictures in Kansas City.....and the subject is quite handsome too! Happy Birthday Jayce! I love you!February 10, 2011 - 2:06 pm

The world of Miss “P”

Miss P is now 5 months and the baby gurl has not grown as some babies we know (bella and brynn). However I have enjoyed her staying small. She has weighed in at a whapping 9 lbs. just this last week, the doc was a little concerned saying that she has dropped of the chart. He ordered some test and all came back perfectly, just as she is.

Misty and I still just gaze at her a say Wow! She is so beautiful and happy. We can still hardly process the fact that we did it again. She is now able to eat some regular food and cereal in the formula. We expect some weight gain in the coming weeks, but if not that quite alright with me. She will always be the Baby Gurl!

Pam - WELL...at least she doesn't get stuck in the bumbo chair and have to be pryed out of it (Brynn) :)February 10, 2011 - 2:04 pm

Paxtyn Noel

OK so I really thought it would be an endless photo frenzy with the arrival of Miss P. And I have taken a bunch of shots of her but I just have not had the time to edit and upload. I have been putting off a lot of work because I can’t seem to find the time when I get home to sit behind the IMac and process. So I bit the bullet and purchase Light Room 3 for my laptop “PC” so I can edit at my lunch hour during the day.

Here is a Sneak Peak of a few I shots of Miss P laying on the floor on Turkey day! There will be more shots to come, I Promise!

Lauren Grace

Its has been a long while since I have posted anything. I shot these images of Lauren Grace back in October at the punkin patch. Her mom made her a niffty little tutu and she looked so festive. She could not decide on her punkin. After careful review she finally made that crucial decision.  We completed the shot with a quick train ride around the punkin patch.. So much funny and a charming little girl.

Happy Monday

Blogging some what of a task for me because I it is hard to just sit down and start writting. I have so much going on in my life right now that there is endless material to blog such as my wonderful family and recent addition, Paxtyn Noel. Its hard to believe that tomorrow she will be a week old. Believe me, there will be pictures to come. I have taken so many random pictures and they are all hard to choose from. Hopefully I plan to post a slide show here soon so stay tunned.

Happy Monday!

I need a make over…. I think!

I think a lot! I think about my faith, my family, my finances, and countless other ideas that pop into my little brain. I guess you could say I am dreamer, but I think that title is to obscure. I choose to consider myself…… a visionary. That sounds much more official.  I think a lot of being an entrepreneur… I think I was programmed that way by first, my grandfather and second my dad. My dad is almost seventy years old and thinks he is twenty. He still travels internationally for work. Pappy never failed, every time he talk to me he would say “Hey lad, what are you doing?”, and if I replied nothing, He would say “Well then, lets make something happen”.  I think! That’s why I can not sit still. I was programmed not be idle. I believe in hard work and family and sometimes the former can take priority over the latter. It is difficult to find the balance. One thing I do know and believe is that to succeed in this world it will take hard work but you can not sacrifice the cost of the family. I mean that’s why you’re working so hard to begin with. However I am slowly learning to stop and enjoy the little things. Like just sitting with Misty and watch a little AGT or Biggest Loser or Project Runway!

You wanna know something funny? When I started writing this blog I was thinking I needed a make over for my website and blog. I think!

Have a great weekend my peeps.
